During the summer we spend a lot more time outdoors. Living in Texas means it can get very hot. We have to take come precautions for our beagle. Our beagles can get dehydrated due to the extreme head. There some emergencies that can occur with your dog due to the extreme temperatures. outdoors.
Signs of Heat Exhaustion
*Excessive Panting and trouble breathing
*Drooling Mild Weakness
What you Can Do
*Get them to a cool and shady place,
with air conditioning and plenty of water.
*If the panting is really sever get them
to Vet immediately
*Keep Fresh cool water available you can add some ice cubes to the bowl,
*If they have a crate provide a crate fan
to keep a cool breeze
*Use a sun visor
*Try a Kool Collar
*Groom to remove loose hair to keep your pet more comfortable
Keep walks short
During the summer try to walk your dog early in the morning
when its less likely to be as hot, and keep the walks short.
Be careful walking them where there is asphalt, if they linger,
they could burn their paws. So just keep it short.
B-B-Qs and Pool Parties
Let your guests know not to give your dog any sips of
alcoholic drinks or feed them table scraps. Your beagle could
get very sick depending on what they may share.
Never leave your pet unsupervised by the pool, they
can drown. Make sure to have a flotation jackets
if you take them out on the
boat. Rinse them off after, swimming.
If your planning a summer road trip, take
some ice with you. Its easier to travel with,
and small amounts of water will help them if they
Feed them a light meal 2 to 3 hours ahead of travel time.
Avoid feeding them while your in the car, because they can
get an upset stomach.
Cafe and Outside Dinning
Find a cool spot, ask your server for an extra glass of ice water.

Check their Paws
Cuts and burns can happen especially during the summer months.
Watch out for limping and favoring of their paw. Look for red paws
and bleeding. Take them to the Vet.
