Lucy the beagle received the National Heroism award, for her owner John’s Miles life. John was taking Lucy for a walk, using the same route, they had take for eight years. One morning very cold morning in November while crossing the avenue, they were both hit by a speeding car.
Lucy while in pain limped into a dentist’s office and barked for help. The employees heard her, and called 911. It impresses me how much she loved her owner, to go and get help. If she hadn’t limped to the office, it would have taken longer for help to come. When your hurt, time is of the essence. John Miles was laying on the ground barely conscious.
“Miles suffered two broken legs, a broken shoulder, a torn rotator cuff and multiple facial fractures. Lucy had a torn ACL and NCL and had to undergo surgery. After reading about Lucy on MyFoxBoston.com, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles decided to honor her with the spcaLA National Hero Dog Award. She will also receive a year’s supply of dog food”
Miles and Lucy are on the road to recovery. The love that Lucy had for Miles, is what saved his life. Its wonderful that she is
getting recognition for her heroism. What touched me the most about this story was how Lucy, braced herself against her owner, while
they waited for help. After she went to get help, she came back braced herself against her owner and wouldn’t leave his side. This part made
