Going to School At PetMD University

PetMD University Take courses and learn about pet care, training and health

I have been going to school at PetMD University, and learning some very helpful health and training tips. The courses are free, and you get some cool badges. Best of all you really learn some very helpful tips.

For example do you know how to do CPR for your dog?

You can take these helpful classes at your own pace. You get some points and a cool  badge. At the end of the course, there is a a quiz, but no worries if you mess up, you can retake the test. So far I have learned how to give my Candy CPR, and some good ideas
on socializing her.

There were also some very helpful tips on keeping my dog hydrated when she has diarrhea. They give you some good guidelines on what to watch out
for, and giving a bland diet of chicken and rice. Especially helpful to learn why my dog might vomit. Some ideas on putting together an emergency kit
for my beagle. Of course we have an emergency plan, and a kit for my son, but never thought to have one ready for our dog. These are some of the things you can learn by taking the Dog Emergency Preparedness course Its these helpful tips, and guides on what to do when my dog chokes, and separation anxiety, that make these courses so valuable for any pet owner.

Here is what I would like you to do

  •  Enroll for school at PetMD University.

Candy and Her Teddy Bear

Last year during this month Candy became apart of our family.

Candy our beagle with her teddy bear

Candy our beagle with her teddy bear

She has recently adopted one of the stuffed animals in our home.
We got this stuffed teddy bear, my son didn’t really like it all that much.

One morning as I was picking things up around the house I noticed that the little teddy bear was missing. I wondered where it was.
I looked outside, and saw my beagle Candy carrying it around in
the yard.

My husband told me he had seen her sleeping with it in his office. We both called
the bear baby. We asked Candy to go get her baby, and she started bringing the teddy bear with her.

Whenever we go on a road trip, our beagle goes and grabs her baby, and brings it with her. During walks, her baby has to stay home. So she puts it on her bed, and goes off for a walk with dad. I did have another beagle that took his snoopy with him. Candy has her baby, and just enjoys taking it around with her.

She does like to trade her baby for a nice beagle snack. A teddy bear gets some love, with our beagle. Anyone else have a dog that does this?

In Honor of St Patrick’s Day The Kerry Beagle

Kerry Beagle from 1915

Kerry Beagle from 1915 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The Kerry Beagle is one of the oldest hounds. They
can be traced back to the 18th century. Its believed
that they descended from the Celtic hound and the
old southern hound.

They are primarily used to track game like
raccoon’s and rabbits. The breed almost went
out but was revitalized by g braque de l’Ariège, a French hound. They
are mostly found in Ireland.

This hound has a broad head and they are medium
in size. They have great speed and endurance. This is
what makes them such good hunters.

Just like any other beagle they love to play chase,
and should be on a leash. One good scent and they
are off and running to catch the game.

They are a beautiful breed, and live by
their nose. Like other hounds, they need
regular exercise. Loving, merry little hounds
is what makes them so special. Happy St
Patrick’s Day!

Happiness is a Beagle with Dryer Sheets

Maymo the Lemon Beagle, loves to
wallow in Dryer Sheets. Laundry day,
is a happy day for this beagle.

My beagle is more thrilled with
grocery day. She loves to check out
what’s in the grocery bags. Dryer
sheets aren’t her thing. Maymo
loves them. I don’t think he is particular
to snuggle or the store brand. At least,
he loves to roll in something that smells
nice!

Guest Blog Artists of Animal Century: Beagle The Lord Kingdom of Fancy Dogs

Beagle the Lord. Kingdom of Fancy Dogs by Maria Pishvanova

Beagle The Lord
Painting by Animal Century.com

Beagle in beautiful clothes you see on the
portrait,is more than just a character from a painting.
He is a noble dog from the magical kingdom of fancy animals!

There, dogs of all breeds celebrate their
individuality, being fashionable and artistic.
For this guest blog, we asked beagle to write about this kingdom
and tell the story of how Happy Art was born.

Maria, Julia and Anna
Artists of Animal Century

Hello, dear readers of BeagleDaily! My name is Lord Beagle. I am honored to write this
guest blog, and acquaint you with Animal Century Kingdom. This is a land of fancy animals,
where live dogs of all breeds – residents of the kingdom.
They wear stylish clothing, and lead joyful lifestyle.
You may ask, where Animal Century is situated? Well, it is not on the other planet.
And it is not imaginary. Our land was founded by artists…

Everything began in 1989, when the artist Maria Pishvanova painted kitten in a boot.
The painting looked incredible! Maria was so happy with the result, so she decided
to paint more artworks, depicting animals and fashion. The artist started
to design beautiful clothing and accessories for characters from paintings.

The first animals in clothes and also residents of
Animal Century were a pretty couple – hedgehog and cat in wedding clothes.
The story behind this painting is very romantic. A friend of Maria fell in love
with the most wonderful girl in the world. He asked the artist to paint something,
that will be a great gift for her. Hedgehog and cat turned out to be magical painting!
Boy and girl married shortly after this artwork was done.

It was the very nice surprise for Maria. She understood that her
art helps people to be happy. Everyone smiled while looking at portraits of animals in clothes.
That is how our land of Happy Art was founded – with creativity and great love.
We, residents of Animal Century, are always ready to make your day!

As time went by, more and more beautiful portraits were being created. Maria’s daughter Julia joined her,
and they continued painting together. Our kingdom grew, you
could already meet many dog breeds, walking on the magical streets.
As you know, each dog belongs to a group, which includes breeds, similar to each other.
That is why Animal Century was divided into counties. Counties for toy dogs, gundogs, shepherds…
I live in the Hound County, together with bloodhounds, harriers, borzois and other great dogs.
I would be happy to welcome beagles at my home!
Feel free to visit me in Scenthound city, when traveling around Animal Century.

Art is very important to all of us.
We love to visit museums, and watch there masterpieces of dog art.
Luckily, there are many galleries and other art spaces in our Kingdom.
For example, the Royal Gallery – there are exhibited paintings with residents of Animal Century.
My portrait hangs in the section of Royal Dogs – together with portraits
of Corgi the Queen and other noble dogs. I am honored to be accompanied by them!

Our artists carry on doing more portraits of dog breeds.
Maria and her daughters – Julia and Anna – reside in Palace of Animal Century,
and invite our residents for portraying. Julia helps with painting,
Anna manages online kingdom at AnimalCentury.com

I would also like to mention other residents from Palace.
Prince Romeo the Chihuahua and the Cat Queen are Ambassadors of Happy Art.
Their mission is to acquaint people and animals with our land.

So, when I wrote this blog, that was my mission, too.
I hope you liked my story, and are interested in visiting the kingdom.
We are working hard on making Animal Century the more exciting and magical place to visit!

Animal Century is the portrait collection of dogs, cats and other animals.

Artists Maria Julia and Anna from Animal Century.com

The artist Maria Pishvanova started it in 1989. Since then, she portrays animals in natural look,
giving them unique image. Over 200 paintings have been done,
and Maria carries on portraying more incredible characters.
With the help of her daughters she creates impressive art collection.
Artist uses all her skills to make outstanding paintings, that depict animals in all their beauty.

George Washington, Father of The American Fox Hound

April 30: George Washington becomes the first ...

In the spirit of President’s day,

I thought it would be fun to write about another president’s favorite hunting companions.

George Washington wasn’t just one of America’s founding fathers.  He is also known as the father of the american foxhound.

George Washington owned a variety of dogs from herding dogs to lap dogs but hunting hounds were his passion.

So much so that he spent years trying to breed a super hound just for fox hunting.

The General, an avid fox hunter, hoped to create a superb breed of four-legged companions for the chase and began breeding his English, French and local hounds for desirable traits. The dog that he created eventually became known as the American Foxhound.

American Foxhound from 1915

He loved his dogs and he named every single one in his writings.

Names bestowed on Washington’s personal four-legged friends are of a telling nature as to his love for them. These included Countess, Doxey, Droner, Dublin, Dutchess, Forrester, Hearkwell, Jupiter, Lady, Mopsey, Music, Pluto, Ragman, Ringwood, Rober, Rockwood, Rover, Searcher, Shingas, Singer, Sweetlips, Truelove, Venus and Vulcan.

One popular story told by Washington’s grandson involved Vulcan one of his French hounds.

“It happened that upon a large company sitting down to dinner at Mount Vernon one day, the lady of the mansion (my grandmother) discovered that the ham, the pride of every Virginia housewife’s table, was missing from its accustomed post of honor. Upon questioning Frank, the butler, this portly, and at the same time the most polite and accomplished of all butlers, observed that a ham, yes, a very fine ham, had been prepared, agreeably to the Madam’s orders, but lo and behold! who should come into the kitchen, while the savory ham was smoking in its dish, but old Vulcan, the hound, and without more ado fastened his fangs into it; and although they of the kitchen had stood to such arms as they could get, and had fought the old spoiler desperately, yet Vulcan had finally triumphed, and bore off the prize, ay, ‘cleanly, under the keeper’s nose.’ The lady by no means relished the loss of a dish which formed the pride of her table, and uttered some remarks by no means favorable to old Vulcan, or indeed to dogs in general, while the chief [Washington], having heard the story, communicated it to his guests, and, with them, laughed heartily at the exploit of the stag-hound.”

Washington kept his hounds in a kennel just a few feet from his house and it had a creek running though it.  Washington visited the kennel and spent time with his beloved dogs every single day.

When I think of our founding Fathers and the legacy they left us I truly feel that we are standing on the shoulders of giants. And most important of all they were dog people.
